The next go-around of electing the chief executive, and several of the legislators who will steer the affairs of Oyo State, is just around the corner. According to the social commentaries of Alamu in his book, whoever is elected should be the leader the State is in dire need of, someone with the innate skills to be creative in re-invigorating the pace of social progress in the State. Therein is the basis for the title of the book, The Pace of Our Social Progress. A clarion call of sought, this call by Alamu, is synchronous with those of millions of people who want the pace of social progress move faster in Oyo State, lying deep in the ancient Yoruba Empire of Western Nigeria. Those yearning for this progress are those in whom the aspiration for her greatness still burns, as it did in those on whose legacy lies her glory. The author is convinced that the spirit remains, but the politics and governance, which have dramatically changed in the State, are dowsing the passion for a brisker paced social progress. Progress strengthens character, and in doing things right, Oyo State must become more effective in achieving the expectations and desires for survival. Sectioned into five distinct, and well researched viewpoints, the book identifies factors that retard the pace of social progress in the State including, the burden of the State's history, poor governance, dysfunctional education system, constrained economic growth, decrepit infrastructural outlay, and undependable Social Services. The book ends with suggestions on how using Systems Thinking and Creative Leadership, can be applied for reinvigorating the social system. This will help address how the proven social management models can be applied to help move the pace of social progress in Oyo State. There is an appendix with glossary of terms used in the book, a sample chronicle of milestones in the history of social progress for the State. A Strength-Weakness-Opportunities-Threats (SWOT) Analysis is also included for academic exercise.
