Her leadership skills are tested once again when a catastrophic event destroys Tessina, and she is forced to accept rescue for the survivors from Captain Lexin Reed who is tall-dark-and-handsome and charismatic but who she does not trust.
While traveling on Captain Reed's ship called the Compassion to their new home on Mindealia, they lose someone very dear to them and are betrayed by another.
If Mindy hadn't looked as closely as she did at the implications of what was stored on Level 1 of the Compassion or had the reaction she did to the unmarked, white juice box offered to all of the survivors, life would have been almost perfect. But as is usual in Mindy's world, nothing is as it appears to be. At least, she is moving towards Zack now...
