This book is written with so much youthful assuredness and, withal, with so much youthful enthusiasm that it can be read with pleasure even by those who feel alarm on seeing the name of its author. It consists of the exposition of an ideal England under Socialism by a wizard to a soft-hearted general who says " Hah! " and also "Dammit! " and to a hardhearted company promoter who shrugs his shoulders. These two gentlemen are both as romantically impossible as is Mr. Blatchford's wizard, and it would certainly have strengthened the latter's case if either of the two persons who are unable to refute his arguments had had any brains. Mr. Blatchford has made his England attractive, though we notice that here, as in other Utopias that we call to mind, the flowers are always blooming, and it never rains, a strange result of vegetarianism, and a sufficiency of food, work, play and education for everybody! We fancy that by writing such books as these Mr. Blatchford is doing good service for his cause, but he ought to know that Mrs. Glasse never said "first catch your hare."
