Renas is forced to follow his family's path of the duke. Not like it is a big deal. Every member of the party is a duke. This title long lost its original meaning. Nobody cares, as nobody learns. Progress is forbidden. People in power openly break the law and face no consequences, government meetings being used to judge political opponents and the courtroom being used to forge new law. They are afraid of losing the power, so they suppress the intellectual elite. The knowledge makes magic more powerful, that's why.
"Why would they want to watch you?" Elfesya asked.
"Because I do very bad things."
"Oh, what kind of things? Conspiracies? Treason? Robberies?" She smiled.
"No, worse than that. I read books."
The dream of escaping this nightmare never dies. Renas, a politician by obligation and a scientist at heart. He hides in his office, where he tries to create a spell that will take him to another planet. An impossible task, crafted in secret, against all odds. Is this just an escapism, or the true way out?
