Mikal Novastar has recently been accepted into the exclusive and secretive Circle of the White Wizard. Although virtually sightless, he is capable of experiencing his world through the senses of his familiar, Majam, an exquisite white cat. His compassionate nature makes it difficult for him to refuse assistance to any who ask. He does, however, recognize his limitations. When he is called upon to face a dark enemy that he realizes is far beyond his abilities to overcome, he evokes from limbo an ancient warrior, Sir Rusel Ironwood, to be his champion. He is aware that he has made dangerous enemies and fears for his daughter's safety when he inadvertently reveals her existence as a student at The School of the Three Moons. When it becomes evident that she has been targeted by assassins he is torn between protecting his only child's well-being and his duty to defend the land from the ravages of the Dark Knight.
