After a gargoyle warlord murders a king, conquers his castle and condemns his tigers, a symbol of the kingdom, to death in a gladiator arena, he next sets his sights on Chen and her warrior women.
Rather than trying to escape, Chen turns the tables on him and infiltrates the mountain-top castle even though it's defended by thousands of gargoyles. With only a hundred warrior women with her behind enemy lines, Chen disrupts the castle's defenses by sowing confusion and chaos.
Aerylln, Chen's ally and heir to a magic sword, travels into the past seeking the help of the very king the gargoyle warlord has murdered. Yet what little hope they have seems destroyed when Tarlen, the sole surviving member of the king's family and the rightful heir to the castle, is run through with a gargoyle's lance.
Now, trapped in a gargoyle-controlled fortress, Chen has her back to the wall making her doubly dangerous. When she and her warrior women roar in desperate defiance, the very stones of the castle begin to shake, and soon the warlord will find himself quaking as well.
