Emya starts a new life as a mage in the ancient magic citadel of Civim. While she hones her new found magical prowess Felix searches for a way to free them both from the Companion. This sinister magical object has strange, worrying effects on Felix and Emya and the magic around them. Until Felix can find a way to break the connection everyone is in danger, but Emya has other problems. It seems the life she sought to leave behind has found her again. Will Civim become another prison? Or will evil forces attracted by the Companion destroy every good thing Emya has found?
