The simplicity of rural life comes home in this account of German Texan heritage as it was lived in the early 1900s. Much of what the author describes is characteristic of all rural Texas life at that time, but the special ways of Mason County's German Methodists provide an enchanting look at a separate culture. Songs, poems, proverb, prayers, riddles, and the linguistic idiosyncrasies of the pietistic Germans who left Fredericksburg in the 1850s are part of this charming narrative, first published in 1979.
